What Is a Subscription Cost Calculator?

A subscription cost calculator adds up everything you pay for streaming, music, software, apps, memberships and other recurring services. It converts every price to the same time frame, so you can see your real cost per week, per month and per year in one place.

Small monthly payments are easy to forget. A few services that each cost 10 or 15 a month can add up to hundreds of dollars a year. This calculator makes the total visible, shows which subscription costs the most, and helps you decide what is worth keeping.

How to Use This Subscription Calculator

  1. Pick your currency. Choose the symbol you want to see in the results.
  2. Add each subscription. Type a name, the price you pay, and how often you are billed: weekly, monthly, quarterly or yearly.
  3. Add more rows with the Add subscription button. You can add up to 30 subscriptions and remove any row with the × button.
  4. Press Calculate. The results show your total per year, per month and per week, plus a list of your subscriptions sorted from the most to the least expensive.

How Subscription Cost Is Calculated

Every price is first converted to a yearly cost, because a year is the common unit for all billing cycles:

Billing cycleYearly costExample
WeeklyPrice × 525 per week = 260 per year
MonthlyPrice × 1210 per month = 120 per year
QuarterlyPrice × 430 per quarter = 120 per year
YearlyPrice × 1120 per year = 120 per year

The monthly cost is the yearly total divided by 12, the weekly cost is the yearly total divided by 52, and the five year cost is the yearly total multiplied by 5.

Example: a streaming service at 15.99 a month costs 191.88 a year. A music service at 10.99 a month costs 131.88 a year. A cloud storage plan at 29.99 a year costs 29.99. Together that is 353.75 a year, or about 29.48 a month, 6.80 a week and 1,768.75 over five years.

How to Reduce Your Subscription Costs

  • Review your list every few months. Cancel anything you have not used recently.
  • Rotate services. Keep one streaming service at a time and switch when you have finished what you wanted to watch.
  • Compare yearly and monthly prices. Many services charge less per month when you pay yearly. Use this calculator to compare the real yearly cost of both options.
  • Check for family or group plans. A shared plan can lower the cost for each person, if the terms of the service allow it.
  • Look for bundles. Some providers include several services in one plan.
  • Set a reminder for free trials. Cancel before the trial ends if you do not plan to keep the service.
  • Use free alternatives where a free plan covers what you need.

Why Subscription Costs Creep Up

Subscriptions are designed to be easy to start and easy to forget. Prices go up over time, free trials turn into paid plans, and new services appear every year. Because the payments are small and automatic, most people do not notice the total. Seeing the yearly figure makes it easier to make a clear choice about what you really use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Convert each price to a yearly cost by multiplying weekly prices by 52, monthly prices by 12 and quarterly prices by 4, then add them up. Divide the total by 12 to get your monthly cost. This calculator does it for you.

Multiply the weekly price by 52 and divide by 12. This is the same as multiplying by about 4.33. For example, a subscription of 5 per week costs about 21.67 per month.

Often yes, because many services give a discount for yearly billing. Enter the yearly plan as a yearly subscription and the monthly plan as a monthly one in the calculator, and compare the yearly totals. Remember that a yearly plan means paying the whole amount up front.

Add every recurring payment you can find, including streaming, software, apps, memberships and deliveries. Look through your bank statements and app store subscriptions to find the ones you forgot.

The calculator uses the price you enter. If your bill includes tax, enter the amount you actually pay so that the total matches your real spending.

The five year cost shows how a small regular payment grows over time. It uses today’s prices, so the real cost can be higher if the prices go up.
