What Is a Baby Name Generator?

A baby name generator helps parents find a name for a newborn without scrolling through long lists. Our tool collects more than 100 boy and girl names from three traditions that are close to many families in Bangladesh and South Asia: Islamic, Bangla and Hindi. Every name comes with its native script and a short meaning.

You can filter by origin, gender and first letter, search by meaning (try light, river or peace), and save the names you like into a shortlist to share with your family. It is free, works on any device and runs in your browser, so nothing you type is stored.

How to Use the Baby Name Generator

  1. Choose an origin: All, Islamic, Bangla or Hindi.
  2. Choose a gender: Any, Boy or Girl.
  3. Pick a starting letter or type a word in the search box. You can search by the name or by its meaning.
  4. Press Random 12 for a fresh set of ideas, or A to Z to see the names in order.
  5. Press Save on the names you like. They collect in your shortlist, and you can copy the whole list with one tap.

Islamic Baby Names with Meaning

Many Muslim families choose names of the prophets, the companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him), or words from the Quran that carry a good meaning. A good Islamic name is easy to say, has a beautiful meaning and does not suggest anything wrong in faith.

Popular Baby Name Themes

If you are not sure where to start, begin with a theme and search for it in the tool.

How to Choose the Right Baby Name

  • Check the meaning. Read the meaning in more than one source and ask an elder if the name is from a religious tradition.
  • Say it out loud. Try it with the family name and with the nickname you may use at home.
  • Think about spelling. The same name can be written in several ways in English, and the spelling on the birth certificate is the one you will use for life.
  • Look at the initials. Make sure the initials do not form an unwanted word.
  • Plan for both names. In many Bangladeshi families a child has a dak nam (pet name) and a bhalo nam (official name). Choose both with care.
  • Ask your partner. Use the shortlist and copy button to share your favourites and decide together.

What to Check Before You Finalise a Name

  • The spelling in Bangla and in English match what you will write on the birth registration.
  • The name is not too long for forms, passports and school records.
  • The meaning is positive in the languages your family speaks.
  • The name fits your religious and family values.
  • You are happy to hear it for many years, from childhood to old age.
