Your photo is processed inside your browser and is never uploaded. Sizes can change, so always confirm the current rules on the official embassy or passport office website. This tool fills empty space with the background color but does not remove a busy background.

Passport and Visa Photo Resizer for Every Country

Every country has its own rules for passport and visa photos. The United States asks for a square 2 x 2 inch picture, the UK and most of Europe use 35 x 45 mm, Canada uses a taller 50 x 70 mm size, and many online portals set an exact pixel size and a maximum file size on top of that. Getting it wrong means a rejected application and a lost appointment. This free Passport / Visa Photo Resizer lets you crop and resize a photo to the correct size in a few clicks, directly in your browser.

How to Resize a Photo to Passport Size

  1. Upload a clear, front-facing photo of yourself taken with a plain background.
  2. Pick the country or document from the list. The width, height and DPI fill in automatically. You can also type a custom size.
  3. Drag the photo to center your face inside the dotted oval, and use the zoom slider to make your head the right size.
  4. If the application has a file size limit, enter it in KB. The tool lowers the JPG quality until the file fits.
  5. Press Download photo, or download a 4 x 6 inch print sheet with several copies ready for a photo lab.

Passport and Visa Photo Sizes by Country

The table below lists common sizes together with the pixel size at the DPI shown. Rules are updated from time to time and some portals publish more than one size, so check the official website before you submit.

Pixels, Millimetres and DPI Explained

A printed photo is measured in millimetres or inches, while an online upload is measured in pixels. DPI (dots per inch) links the two. At 300 DPI, a 35 x 45 mm photo is 413 x 531 pixels. At 600 DPI the same photo is 827 x 1063 pixels. Use a higher DPI when the portal asks for a sharper file, and a lower one when the file size is the problem. If you want to work out the numbers yourself, try our Image DPI Calculator.

Background, Lighting and Face Position

  • Use a plain white or light background without shadows. Stand a little away from the wall to avoid shadows behind you.
  • Face the camera directly with a neutral expression, both eyes open and your mouth closed.
  • Keep your head centered and your whole face, from the top of the hair to the chin, inside the frame.
  • Use soft, even light from the front. Avoid flash glare, filters and heavy retouching.

This tool fills any empty area with the background color you choose, but it does not remove a messy background. If your wall is not plain, use the Image Background Changer first and then resize here.

File Size Limits for Online Uploads

Many passport and visa portals limit the upload to a few hundred kilobytes. Enter the limit in the Max file size box and the tool picks the best JPG quality that stays under it. For finer control, or to reduce other pictures to a precise size, use the Compress Image to Exact KB tool.

Make a 4 x 6 Inch Print Sheet

Photo labs print on standard 4 x 6 inch paper. The print sheet button places as many copies of your photo as fit on one 4 x 6 inch page at 300 DPI, with small gaps for cutting. Take the file to any lab or print it at home on photo paper.

Your Photo Stays Private

Everything happens in your browser. Your picture is not uploaded, stored or shared, so you can safely prepare photos for official documents.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the standard passport photo size?

It depends on the country. The United States uses 2 x 2 inches (51 x 51 mm), while the UK, the EU and many other countries use 35 x 45 mm. Canada uses 50 x 70 mm. Choose your country in the list to fill in the correct size.

What size is a passport photo in Bangladesh?

Sources show different sizes depending on the form: 35 x 45 mm for the e-Passport and visa, 45 x 55 mm on older printed application forms, and 25 x 30 mm on some online forms. Check the size written on your own application and pick the matching preset or enter a custom size.

How many pixels is 35 x 45 mm?

At 300 DPI a 35 x 45 mm photo is 413 x 531 pixels. At 600 DPI it is 827 x 1063 pixels. The tool shows the exact pixel size under the settings.

How do I make a 2 x 2 inch photo for a US visa?

Choose the 2 x 2 in preset, upload your photo and center your face in the oval. The tool exports 600 x 600 pixels at 300 DPI, and the preset also sets a 240 KB file size limit that suits US visa uploads.

Can this tool change the photo background to white?

It fills empty areas with the background color you pick, but it cannot remove a busy background. Use the Image Background Changer first if your wall is not plain.

How do I reduce a passport photo to 300 KB or less?

Enter 300 in the Max file size box and keep the format on JPG. The tool automatically finds the highest quality that stays within the limit.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. Your photo is cropped and resized inside your browser and never leaves your device.

Can I print the photos?

Yes. Download the 4 x 6 inch print sheet, which contains several copies at 300 DPI, and print it on photo paper or take it to a print shop.
