URL List Cleaner

Paste a messy list of links and get a clean, duplicate-free list. Remove tracking codes, normalise links, filter by keyword or extract unique domains in one click.

Your list is processed inside your browser and is never uploaded. Only known tracking parameters are removed by default, so useful parameters such as id=5 or page=2 are kept.

What Is a URL List Cleaner?

A URL list cleaner is a free online tool that takes a long, untidy list of web links and turns it into a clean, consistent list. It finds every link in the text you paste, removes duplicates, strips tracking codes and lets you standardise the format of the links, so the final list is shorter, tidier and easier to work with.

Link lists collected from spreadsheets, emails, crawlers, social media, analytics exports and research notes are almost always messy. The same page may appear several times with different tracking codes, with and without www, or with and without a trailing slash. Our URL list cleaner fixes all of this in your browser in a few seconds.

How to Clean a URL List

  1. Paste your links into the left box. They can be one per line or mixed into normal text. Links that start with http://, https:// or www. are found automatically.
  2. Choose your options. Remove duplicates, remove tracking parameters, remove fragments, drop the trailing slash, remove www or switch http links to https.
  3. Choose the output. Keep full cleaned URLs or switch to a list of unique domains only.
  4. Filter if you need to. Keep only links that contain certain words, or remove links that contain certain words.
  5. Check the summary and copy. The chips show how many links were found, kept and removed. Press Copy or Download .txt to use the result.

The list updates automatically each time you change the text or an option.

What the URL List Cleaner Can Do

  • Extract URLs from any text. Paste a paragraph, a document or a markdown file and the tool pulls out every link, even when it is wrapped in brackets or followed by punctuation.
  • Remove duplicate URLs. Identical links are listed only once.
  • Remove tracking parameters. Parameters such as utm_source, utm_medium, fbclid, gclid and msclkid are stripped, while useful parameters such as id=5 stay in place.
  • Remove all query parameters or fragments when you want only the plain page address.
  • Normalise links. Remove the trailing slash, remove www and change http to https so the same page is not listed in several forms.
  • Add https to bare domains. Turn entries such as example.com/page into full links.
  • Create a list of unique domains. Reduce thousands of links to the websites they belong to.
  • Filter by keyword. Keep or remove links that contain the text you enter.
  • Sort and format. Sort from A to Z and output one link per line or separated by commas or spaces.

Tracking Parameters Explained

Many links you copy from emails, ads and social media carry extra codes after a question mark. These tracking parameters tell analytics tools where a visitor came from. For example, utm_source and utm_campaign are added by marketers to measure campaigns, fbclid is added by Facebook and gclid is added by Google Ads.

These codes do not change which page opens, but they make links longer and they make the same page look like many different URLs. Removing them gives you shorter links that are easier to share and compare, and it can also protect a little of your privacy when you pass a link on to someone else.

This tool removes only well known tracking parameters by default. Parameters that change the content of the page, such as a product id, a search term or a page number, are kept. If you want only the bare page address, switch on the option to remove all query parameters.

Why Clean and Deduplicate URL Lists

  • SEO and content audits. Merge lists from crawlers, sitemaps and analytics without counting the same page twice.
  • Backlink and outreach lists. Build a clean list of pages or websites before you start contacting people.
  • Research and bookmarks. Tidy a long list of sources collected over time.
  • Data imports. Many tools reject invalid links, so a clean list avoids errors during import.
  • Link checking. Checking each unique link once saves time and server requests.

How Duplicates Are Detected

Duplicates are found by comparing the cleaned links exactly. This means that the cleaning options decide which links are treated as the same page. For example, https://example.com/page and https://example.com/page/ are different strings, so both are kept unless you switch on Remove trailing slash. In the same way, http and https versions, links with and without www, and links with different fragments stay separate until you choose the matching options.

The host name is always written in lowercase because it is not case sensitive, but the path is left as you entered it because paths can be case sensitive on many servers.

Tips for Better Results

  • Turn on Remove tracking parameters, Remove www and Change http:// to https:// together when you want to merge several versions of the same page.
  • Use the Unique domains output when you only need to know which websites appear in your list.
  • Use Keep only URLs containing to focus on one website or one section, such as /blog/.
  • Check the box of invalid entries under the tool to find links that were cut off or mistyped.
  • Keep a copy of your original list in case you want to try different options.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the URL list cleaner free to use?

Yes. The tool is free, requires no sign-up and has no limit on how often you use it.

How does the tool find URLs in my text?

It looks for words that start with http://, https:// or www. and cleans up surrounding punctuation such as brackets, commas and full stops. Links inside markdown and normal sentences are found as well.

What are tracking parameters?

They are extra codes added to a link after a question mark, such as utm_source, fbclid or gclid, that tell analytics tools where a visitor came from. They do not change the page that opens.

Will removing parameters break my links?

By default only known tracking parameters are removed, so links keep working. If you turn on Remove all query parameters, parameters that select content, such as a product id, are removed too, which can change the page that opens.

Why are two similar links not treated as duplicates?

Links are compared exactly after cleaning. Use Remove trailing slash, Remove www, Change http:// to https:// and Remove #fragments to make different forms of the same page match.

Can I get a list of unique domains?

Yes. Change the Output setting to Unique domains only. The tool then lists each website once, without www.

Is my list uploaded or saved?

No. All processing happens in your browser and your links are not sent to any server or saved by the tool.

What happens to entries that are not valid URLs?

They are removed from the clean list and shown in a separate box under the tool so that you can review them. Links with schemes such as ftp are treated as invalid because the tool is made for web links.

Can I clean a very large list?

Yes. Lists with tens of thousands of links are usually cleaned in a second or two on a modern device. Very large lists depend on your device and browser memory.

Can I download the result?

Yes. Press Download .txt to save the cleaned list as a text file or press Copy to copy it to your clipboard.
