CSV Duplicate Row Finder

Paste or upload a CSV file to find duplicate rows. See exactly which rows repeat, choose the columns to compare and download a clean file with the duplicates removed.

Your file is processed inside your browser and is never uploaded. Row numbers count the header as row 1 when a header row is used.

What Is a CSV Duplicate Row Finder?

A CSV duplicate row finder is a free online tool that scans a CSV file and shows you which rows appear more than once. Instead of searching through thousands of lines by eye, you paste your data or upload a file and the tool groups every repeated row, tells you how many times it was found and lists the row numbers so that you can check them quickly.

Duplicate rows are common in exported customer lists, product feeds, email lists, order reports, survey results and data that was merged from several files. This tool finds them in seconds and creates a clean copy of your file with the extra copies removed, all inside your browser.

How to Find Duplicate Rows in a CSV File

  1. Paste your CSV data into the box, or click Upload file to open a .csv, .tsv or .txt file. You can also click Try example.
  2. Choose your options. The delimiter is detected automatically, and the first row is treated as a header by default.
  3. Press Find duplicates. The results also update automatically when you change an option.
  4. Read the summary and the table of duplicate groups. Each group shows how many times the row appears and the row numbers.
  5. Copy the cleaned CSV or download it. You can also download only the duplicate rows to review them in a spreadsheet.

Compare the Whole Row or Only Some Columns

By default two rows are duplicates only when every column is the same. Often that is too strict. A customer may appear twice with a different phone number or order date, but the same email address. In that case type the column names or numbers you want to compare in the box Compare only these columns, separated by commas.

SettingExample inputResult
All columnsLeave the box emptyOnly rows that are exactly the same are duplicates
One column by nameemailRows with the same email are duplicates
One column by number3Rows with the same value in the third column are duplicates
Several columnsfirst_name, last_name, 4Rows are duplicates when all of those columns match

Options That Give You Control

  • Delimiter: auto detect works for comma, semicolon, tab and pipe files. You can also choose one manually.
  • First row is a header: keeps the header out of the comparison and lets you use column names.
  • Ignore upper and lower case: treats Ann@Example.com and ann@example.com as the same value.
  • Trim spaces: ignores extra spaces at the start and end of values.
  • Skip empty rows: blank lines are not counted as duplicates of each other.
  • Keep first or last occurrence: choose which copy of a repeated row stays in the cleaned file. Keep the last one when newer rows are added at the bottom of your file.

Why Remove Duplicate Rows?

Duplicate records cause real problems. A mailing list with repeated addresses sends the same message twice and can harm your sender reputation. Repeated products or orders make reports and totals wrong. Duplicate users create confusion in a CRM, and duplicate lines can make a database import fail or create conflicting records. Cleaning the file before you import, analyse or share it saves time and avoids costly mistakes.

How Duplicates Are Detected

The tool reads your data with a proper CSV parser, so commas and line breaks inside quoted fields stay in the right column. For each row it builds a comparison key from the chosen columns after applying your trim and case options. Rows with the same key belong to the same group. The kept row is written to the cleaned file exactly as it was in your original data, so the case and spacing of your values are never changed. Row numbers refer to the position in your file, and the header counts as row 1 when a header is used.

Tips for Cleaner Data

  • Compare a unique identifier such as an email, ID or SKU when you have one, instead of the whole row.
  • Turn on trim and ignore case to catch near duplicates that differ only in spacing or capital letters.
  • Download the duplicates-only file first and check it before you delete anything.
  • If your data is in Excel, save the sheet as CSV first and open that file here.
  • Keep a copy of the original file so that you can always go back.

Free and Private

The CSV duplicate row finder is free, needs no account and has no usage limit. Your data is processed inside your browser and is never uploaded, stored or shared, so it is safe to use with customer lists and internal reports. Very large files depend on the memory of your device, but files with tens of thousands of rows are normally processed in a second or two.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the CSV duplicate row finder free to use?

Yes. The tool is free, requires no sign-up and has no limit on how often you use it.

Is my CSV file uploaded to a server?

No. The file is read and processed inside your browser. Your data is not sent to any server or saved by the tool.

How are commas inside quotes handled?

The tool uses a real CSV parser. A value such as "Dhaka, Bangladesh" in quotes stays in one column, and the quotes are added again in the cleaned file when they are needed.

Can I find duplicates using only the email column?

Yes. Type the column name, for example email, or its number into the box Compare only these columns. You can list several columns separated by commas.

Which row is kept when duplicates are removed?

By default the first occurrence is kept. Choose Last occurrence in the Keep option if you want to keep the newest row instead.

Does ignoring case change my data?

No. Ignoring case only affects how rows are compared. The rows in the cleaned file keep their original capital letters and spacing.

Can I use an Excel file?

Save your Excel sheet as CSV first (File, Save As, CSV) and then upload that file. The tool works with CSV, TSV and text files.
