Video Compressor to Exact Size

Shrink any video to a size you choose, such as 8 MB for chat apps or 25 MB for email. The video is compressed in your browser, so nothing is uploaded. Free, no sign-up.

Choose a video or drop it hereMP4, MOV, WebM and more. Your video stays on your device.

Compression runs in your browser with FFmpeg, so nothing is uploaded. The first run downloads the video engine (about 32 MB). Keep this tab open while it works. Long or high-resolution videos can take several minutes. We count 1 MB as 1,000,000 bytes so the result fits limits that use either MB or MiB.

What Is a Video Compressor to Exact Size?

A video compressor to exact size lets you pick the file size you need and then shrinks the video to fit it. Most compressors ask for a quality level and leave you guessing how big the result will be. This tool works the other way round: you choose a target such as 8 MB or 25 MB, and it calculates the bitrate needed to reach it.

It is useful whenever a platform has an upload limit, for example chat apps, email, forms and support tickets.

How to Compress a Video to 8MB or 25MB

  1. Choose your video or drop it into the box.
  2. Select a target size: 8 MB, 10 MB, 25 MB, 50 MB, 100 MB or a custom number.
  3. Leave the resolution on Auto, or pick one yourself.
  4. Press Compress video and wait for the progress bar to finish.
  5. Preview the result and download the MP4 file.

The plan line under the options shows the video bitrate and resolution the tool will use before you start.

Compress a Video to 8MB for Discord and Chat Apps

Eight megabytes was long the standard upload limit for free accounts on chat platforms such as Discord, and many forums and ticket systems still use a limit in that range. Platform limits change over time, so check the current number before you upload. Choose the 8 MB preset, keep the resolution on Auto, and the tool will pick a resolution that looks good at that size.

For short clips of a few seconds, 8 MB is plenty for good quality. For clips of several minutes, expect lower resolution.

Compress a Video to 25MB for Gmail and Email

Gmail allows attachments up to 25 MB in total. Pick the 25 MB preset to fit one video under the limit. If you need to send more than one file in the same message, choose a smaller custom size so that all attachments together stay under 25 MB, because email adds extra overhead to every attachment.

How the Exact Size Is Calculated

File size is mostly bitrate multiplied by duration. The tool reads the length of your video, takes your target size, subtracts the audio, and works out the video bitrate that fits in the rest. It then encodes the video as H.264 at that bitrate.

Encoders never hit a size to the byte, so the tool aims at about 95 percent of your target. If the result is still over, it automatically tries again with a lower bitrate, up to two more times. The finished file is at or under your target size, not byte-for-byte identical to it.

Tips to Keep Quality High at a Small Size

  • Trim first. A shorter video means more bits for every second. Cut out parts you do not need before compressing.
  • Let resolution drop. A sharp 480p or 720p video looks better than a blocky 1080p video at the same file size.
  • Use the smaller audio setting. 64 kbps is fine for speech. Remove audio if the clip does not need it.
  • Choose Best quality. It is slower, but it gets more out of every bit.
  • Avoid very small targets. If the tool warns that quality will be low, raise the target size.

Supported Formats and Output

The output is an MP4 file with H.264 video and AAC audio, which plays on almost every phone, computer, browser and chat app. The input can be any video your browser can open, which usually includes MP4, MOV and WebM files. If your browser cannot read a file, the tool shows a message instead of failing silently.

Why the Video Is Compressed in Your Browser

This tool uses FFmpeg compiled to run inside your browser. Your video is never uploaded, so it stays private and there is no waiting for a server. It also means the speed depends on your device. A phone or an older laptop takes longer than a modern computer, and the first run downloads the video engine, which is about 32 MB.

Keep the tab open while compression is running. If you switch away on a phone, the browser may pause the work.

Limits to Know

  • Files larger than 1.5 GB are not supported, because browsers cannot hold them in memory.
  • Long, high-resolution videos can take several minutes.
  • Compression always loses some detail. A very small target for a long video will look soft.
  • The tool makes one video at a time.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I compress a video to 8MB?

Choose your video, select 8 MB as the target size, and press Compress video. The tool picks a bitrate and resolution that fit the size and gives you an MP4 to download.

Is the result exactly 8MB or 25MB?

The tool aims just under your target and retries with a lower bitrate if the file comes out too big, so the result is at or under the size. It is not byte-exact.

Is this video compressor free?

Yes. It is free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit.

Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. The video is processed in your browser and never leaves your device.

Why is compression slow?

The work is done by your own device, not a server, and video encoding is heavy. Choose the Fastest speed setting, lower the resolution or trim the video to speed it up.

Will compression reduce the quality?

Yes, a smaller file always means less detail. Auto resolution helps by lowering the size of the picture instead of making it blocky.

Can I compress a video to fit a custom size?

Yes. Choose Custom size in the target menu and enter any number of megabytes.

What is the maximum video size I can compress?

Up to 1.5 GB. Larger files do not fit in browser memory. For those, trim the video first or use a desktop tool.
